Exchanging Life @ NUS Ep.3

【#NUS #LDWEL2003 #學生實習】

“As you might know that the outbreak of novel coronavirus in WuHan occurred in this week, but actually I followed the news really early since 3 Jan.”

The situation of the disease occupied my mind so much that I can barely started to write my weekly diary this late. Not only because of the general situation of the disease but also knowing someone who was supposed to self-quarantined herself just monkeyed around in Singapore. I already did my best to figure out what could I do but end up with realizing nothing would do. So let me close the bad mood in this line and start to share my third and fourth week in Singapore.

20 Jan to 1 Feb.

Despite of the coursework, I spent most of my time joining physical activities, meeting my Taiwanese friends and wandering around at Holland Village, Little India, and Clementi.

Sports

NUS and the Halls on campus offered a lot of events and activities, and I joined the dodge ball interest group in my hall and participated in the ClimbNUS 2020. The dodge ball was literally open for everyone, you didn't even used to play before. I had it on Monday and we rested on the next, and then the school office just canceled all the extracurricular group activities.

When it comes to the ClimbNUS 2020, I would say like, it was really fun and challengeable for those who were more than beginners. But it was really cheap for students to join. It took only 15 $SGD for 2 night climb(but you had to sign in with a group).

Lunar New Year Celebration

I spent the new year's eve, new year's day and second day of the new year all with my Taiwanese friends here in Singapore. We ate hot pot, we drank and we played drinking game called King's Cup. And we played Mahjongg.

Actually the cluster in my hall held a chill and chat event to celebrate Lunar New Year in advance, too.

[SPECIAL]Experiment Participant

Yes, I did participate in an experiment which conducted by the Future Cities Lab. They were using Virtual Reality Technology to build a virtual experiment environment and collect data from the subject that how human react with a innovative navigation system.

As a Psy student, I'm curious about all kinds of experiment. Participated in these kinds of experiment not only helped me knowing better what a researcher in the field could do, but also earned money on campus by myself.

Sth about WuHan Novel Coronavirus

I was really anxious about the disease since I was abroad. The medical system here in Singapore was too expensive for me to seek help. And because of the unpredictably unfriendly political relationship between Taiwan and China, Taiwanese were more aware of the real situation of the disease. But what I saw here in Singapore were that the government responded so quickly to stop the disease from spreading, they closed the boarder, asked those who were back from WuHan and China to self-quarantine themselves, even applied LoA vacation for them. The office in my hall launched a e-Meeting to announce and clarify some doubts. And the government of Singapore limited visitors ,who had been to WuHan and China in 14 days, not to enter. So the spreading seemed to be stop growing since 2 Feb, and whole crisis will be expected to ease after 14 Feb.

"Wish those who I love and love me stay safe and sound, getting past the terrible catastrophe which China brought to the world."
